Cetara - vedutaThis little town is 15 km far from Amalfi. It is located in the valley below the Falenio mountain.

Historicaly, Cetara shared the fate of the Amalfi Republic. Since it was on the border between the Amalfi Republic and the Dukedom of Salerno, it was also used as a Saraceni pirates navy base to attack the Amalfi Coast and Paestum.

Cetara - chiesa di S. Francesco After the Amalfi domination, Cetara was under the control of Erchie Abbey, and later of the Cava Abbey, that used the Cetara harbour for their trade in the Mediterranean. A tragic event, happened, during the XVI century, when Turkish pirates pillaged and destroyed Cetara.

Cetara is renouned for its tinned anchovy and tuna fish production.
