to the Roman aristocracy, that built villas on the valley of the coast,
during the I century A.D., that were born the first human centers.

of these villas were discovered in Minori, Positano, Tramonti and Amalfi...

Some
underwater researches discovered that until the XIV century there was a
wall structure on the seaside of Amalfi; then, not only the family story
handed down during the century tell us about the Amalfi harbour, but, also
some photos show us something under the sea.

The
history of Amalfi is bound with the sea.
Thanks to its sailors, Amalfi was knew in the Mediterranean sea. The name of Amalfi
still appaired on an official letter of the Pope Gregorio Magno, in 596,
when he spoke about the Amalfi's trades.

When
we arrive to the entrance of the Cathedral of Amalfi, we find a big
gate. It is in Bronze. Two Amalphitain merchants gave, Mauro and his
son Pantaleone de Comite Maurone gave the gate to the Amalfi's Church,
in 1060...
