The
Tareno or Tarì (means in arabic new coined), was the Amalphitain coin
between the X century until the 1222, when Federico II forbidded to Amalfi to
coin again. These coins were in gold or silver and some coppers that give a
particular red colour.
The
coin on the side, represents one of the Tareni used by the Amalphitains; It was realized in gold and has a cufic inscription with, in
the middle, the octagon cross of Amalfi. This coin was used during the last
20 years of the XI century.
Thanks
to the Amalphitain trades, the coin was accepted in all the Mediterranean.
